CONSIDER IT ANEW – MAKE IT SUSTAINABLE

INTRODUCTION

The Furniture Museum Vienna shows in nine positions that we can find important inspiration for the current topic “sustainability” and “longevity” in the past, especially in furniture design.

Durability, regional origin and cost-effective production have always been decisive criteria for materials used in furniture construction. High-quality workmanship and timeless design have become a guarantee for long-term use.

These criteria played a crucial role in the selection of the furnishings for the Viennese Court. A high demand for furniture, its frequent transport and repeated use in the apartements of the Habsburg family as well as the use of expensive material for Imperial representation called for long-lasting design.

Take inspiration from the past for today!

The annual theme of ‘Smartening up’ is complemented by guided tours, program and workshops on recycling/upcycling and sustainability.
