3 FURNITURE TO REPRESENT THE REPUBLIC

FURNITURE USED TO SIGN THE AUSTRIAN STATE TREATY IN 1955

After the collapse of the monarchy, the representative buildings, furniture and tableware became the property of the Austrian Republic. As the representation of the Republic continued to use the premises of the monarchy and the state finances did not allow for major new acquisitions, the Presidential Chancellory used this furniture, glassware and porcelain of the Imperial Family for major events such as state visits, state dinners and official acts. Some of this ongoing use continues to this day.

Taking the fact into account and the historical significance coming with it gave the functional furniture its current museum value. A prominent example of this are the tables from the Radetzky apartment, which were used on May 15th,1955 for the signing of the Austrian State Treaty at Belvedere Palace.

Which of your ancestors' tableware do you still use today?
