4 THE THRONE

A LONGLASTING CEREMONIAL OBJECT

Throne arrangements, as permanent representatives of the ruler, were made from precious materials. This included not only large quantities of fabric for canopy and drapery, but also embroidery made from gold and silver thread. Therefore, attempts were made to reuse these ceremonial objects across generations. For example, after the Viennese canopy was renewed, the old draperies were taken to Budapest and reused there.
